Former Husker Tyronn Lue Reportedly Nearing a Deal to Become the Next Head Coach of the Lakers

According to Yahoo Sports, former Nebraska basketball player and Cleveland Cavaliers head coach Tyronn Lue is working through contract negations with the Los Angeles Lakers to become their next head coach. Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN was the first to report that Lue was the front runner to land the position.

The 42 year old Lue would be the replacement for Luke Walton, who was fired in April. Lue played at Nebraska from 1995 until 1998. Following his Husker career, he spent over a decade in the NBA with multiple teams, including the Lakers.

He was most recently the head coach of the Cleveland Cavaliers, where he won the 2016 NBA Finals. If he ultimately does take the Lakers job, he’d be reunited with LeBron James, who played under Lue at Cleveland.
