Last week, reports surfaced that Harris was asked by NU head coach Fred Hoiberg that he didn’t have a spot on the team anymore, prompting him to enter the NCAA’s transfer portal.
It didn’t take long for Harris to find a landing spot, though. Saturday afternoon, Harris announced that he had transferred to play basketball for George Washington University in Washington D.C., transferring from one capital city to another.
Writing in a tweet, the 6-foot-6 guard said “First off, I would like to thank God, for blessing me with the ability to play basketball and surrounding me with such a supportive family.
“I’m thankful to my Mom, Dad, brothers and sisters, for always standing by me and pushing me to be great… I would also like to thank the Nebraska coaching staff for allowing me to grow not only as a player but as a man during my time in Lincoln.”
It’ll be a homecoming of sorts for Harris, who is from Frederick, Maryland, a city located just about 50 miles north of D.C.
This past season with Nebraska, the freshman averaged 2.2 points and 2.5 rebounds per game. Both he and Karrington Davis were asked to leave the program around the same time.
As of right now, there are only three Huskers who were on the roster when Tim Miles was still the head coach; Thorir Thorbjarnarson, Isaiah Roby and Dachon Burke.
