Flakes: Baseball Draft and Who Invented Email?

We check in on some Huskers in the NFL, the craziness of football recruiting, and Netflix.

A large storm system moved across eastern Nebraska yesterday evening. We did not get much as everything went around us. That might be for the best as most in the path of this experienced either large hail (west of us) or high winds (east of us). We could really use some rain, but I’m still patching things from the last hail storm.

The big news on the Husker sports front is the Major League Baseball Draft. Seniors Miller, Burkamper, and Schleppenbach, all have an eye on a future pro career. Juniors Alvarado, Hohensee, Schreiber, and Meyers are all draft-eligible and could make the decision to leave early if their name is called today. The first 10 rounds were completed Monday and Tuesday with round 11 starting today.

Even though no current Huskers have been selected in the early rounds, Nebraska did not emerge unscathed. Incoming freshman pitcher John Swanda was selected in the fourth round and won’t make it to Lincoln. It is not official until he signs his contract, but…yeah.
