Felder Lifts Huskers to Five Inning Victory Over Buckeyes


Mya Felder doubled twice and drove in four runs to power the Nebraska softball team to a 9-1 five-inning victory over Ohio State in the final game of a three-game series in Columbus, Ohio. 

Felder produced her fourth multi-double game of her career and her four RBIs were a season high. Peyton Glatter started the game off with a two-run homer in the top of the first while Sydney Gray drove in two runs with a single in the top of the third. Cam Ybarra added two hits as well as Glatter, Ybarra, Felder and Gray all finished the day 2-for-3 for Nebraska (35-13, 15-4 Big Ten). 

Olivia Ferrell (18-6) earned the win, tossing a complete game and allowing one run in 5.0 innings. 

Lexie Handley (19-8)  took the loss for Ohio State, which fell to 31-14 on the season and 11-9 in the Big Ten. Handley allowed seven runs in 4.0 innings. 

The Huskers took an early lead in the top of the first inning. Cam Ybarra led off with a single to left center. Peyton Glatter followed it up with a two-run homer over the left field fence to take an early 2-0 lead. 

Ohio State loaded the bases with no outs in the bottom of the second, but NU was able to work out of it. After a walk, bunt and an infield single, the bases were loaded. Ferrell was able to strike out the next batter for the first out, followed by a pop up. With two outs, Ferrell struck out the batter for the third out, stranding three Buckeye runners. 

Nebraska added four more runs in the top of the third. Ybarra led off with her second single of the day followed by a single from Glatter. A passed ball advanced the Ybarra and Glatter to second and third. Mya Felder delivered a double to right center, scoring both runners. Abbie Squier was hit by a pitch to reach first. Billie Andrews followed with a sacrifice bunt, advancing Felder and Squier to second and third. Sydney Gray singled to right center, scoring both runners and extending the Big Red’s lead to 6-0. 

The Buckeyes cut the lead with one run in the bottom of the third. A single and a double put runners at second and third. With two outs, a single to the pitcher, scored one to make it a 6-1 game.

The Big Red put three more on the board in the top of the fourth. Kaylin Kinney led off with a single followed by a walk for Anni Raley. Ybarra reached on a fielder’s choice, while Kinney was out at third. With two outs, Felder hit her second double of the day, scoring Ybarra and Raley. Felder advanced to third on a passed ball and scored after Squier singled to through the left side, extending the lead to 9-1. 

The Huskers will return to action at Bowlin Stadium next weekend, May 6-8. Nebraska will take on Indiana in a three-game series for the final weekend of the regular season. Friday’s game will be at 5:30 p.m. (CT). Game two will be on Saturday starting at 4 p.m. (CT) while game three will be on Sunday starting at 1 p.m. (CT). Friday and Sunday’s game will be streamed live on BTN+ (subscription required). Saturday’s game will be broadcasted live on the Big Ten Network.
