Eric Crouch the Final Member of Nebraska Athletic Hall of Fame 2020 Class

The final member of the 2020 Class of the Nebraska Athletic Hall of Fame is one of the most famous Huskers of all-time

Eric Crouch had his career bookended with the 1997 national championship during his redshirt season as a freshman and a return trip to the title game in 2001 as a senior. During that time, Crouch earned two Big 12 Offensive Player of the Year awards while winning the 2001 Heisman Trophy.

The Omaha native passed for nearly 5,000 yards while rushing for more than 3,700 yards in his career. He was just the third player in NCAA history to pass for 4,000 yards and rush for 3,000 yards, Crouch accounted for 97 total touchdowns and ended his career with the most rushing touchdowns and most 100-yard rushing games by any quarterback in NCAA history.

Crouch left Nebraska with 32 school records. He still owns Nebraska all-time records for rushing touchdowns and total touchdowns.

After Nebraska, Crouch was drafted as a receiver in the third round of the 2002 NFL Draft. He played professionally until 2001 with stops in the NFL, NFL Europe, CFL, AAFL, and UFL. His Nebraska No. 7 jersey is retired and he was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame this year.

“It’s wonderful news,” said Crouch on a call with Nebraska Athletic Director Bill Moos. “Despite some of the uncertain times that we’re in it’s good to have some positive stuff come out of what’s going on with the world.”

Moos said on the call that Crouch will be honored for his College Hall of Fame induction and his Nebraska Athletic Hall of Fame induction at two separate football games this fall.

Crouch joins Terry Pettit (Volleyball Head Coach 1977-99), Jordan Larson (Volleyball 2005-08), Amanda Burgoyne (Bowling 2004-07), Maurtice Ivy (Women’s Basketball 1985-88), and Sam Francis (Football 1934-36; Men’s Track & Field 1935-37) as selections to the 2020 Nebraska Athletic Hall of Fame Class.
