Eleanor Dale’s Fifth Consecutive Brace Not Enough as Nebraska Falls 3-2 to Saint Louis

Lincoln, Neb. – Despite a spirited performance by senior Eleanor Dale, who notched her fifth consecutive brace, the #24 Nebraska soccer team couldn’t fend off Saint Louis, falling 3-2 in a closely fought match on Sunday afternoon. The action took place at Hibner Stadium, attracting an audience of 1,307 enthusiastic fans.

Key Game Stats

While Nebraska led in shots (17-16), shots on goal (11-8), and corners (7-3), these statistical advantages could not translate into a win. The loss shifts NU’s season record to 6-1-1, while Saint Louis improves to 5-2-1.

First Half: A Tactical Stalemate

The first half remained goalless, albeit not without attempts from both sides. Nebraska took six shots, led by Dale with two, one of which was on target. Saint Louis had a slight edge in total shots (6-5), but Nebraska led in more significant categories, such as shots on goal (3-2) and corner kicks (3-1).

Second Half: Goals Galore

The floodgates opened in the second half, with all five goals scored within the 45-minute timeframe. Eleanor Dale opened her account in the 56th minute, converting her second penalty kick of the season following a handball in the box by a Saint Louis player.

Saint Louis responded quickly, netting goals in the 64th and 67th minutes, courtesy of Jess Preusser and Katie Houck. But the indomitable Dale found the equalizer in the 76th minute, taking her season tally to 12 goals. Sophomore Briley Hill provided the crucial assist, off a throw-in by redshirt freshman Ella Guyott.

The match seemed destined for a draw until Abbie Miller of Saint Louis scored the decisive goal, assisted by Hannah Sawyer and Sophie Stram.

Defensive and Goalkeeping Highlights

Senior goalkeeper Sami Hauk registered five saves during the complete game. Defenders Lauryn Anglim and Nicola Hauk, as well as forwards Dale and Sarah Weber, also contributed full 90-minute performances.

Upcoming Match

NU will look to bounce back in its next match, hosting Wisconsin on Friday, Sept. 15, at 7:05 p.m. (CT). Fans can catch the action live on Big Ten+.
