Don’t worry everyone, I’m lifting the curse

First of all, I would just like to apologize for how much pain and heartbreak I have caused. We deserve so much better than the atrociously painful losses we have suffered over the years.

As a freshman coming into UNL in 2019, I had a conversation with a good friend of mine, also a freshman, about the state of our athletics program and the immense promise the future held. We had just hired Scott Frost and Fred Hoiberg, and our years as students felt as bright as the stars in the sky. I made the mistake of making the now-regrettable comment that there was no better time to be students at UNL, and that we were inevitably in for four years of athletic success from our men’s football and basketball teams. How could there not be?

You must spare me some sympathy, as Husker Nation shared the same blind optimism I once had. But, I can’t deny the truth. I jinxed it. There’s no way around it. And these statistically improbable one-score losses that continue to occur are the punishment for my slip of tongue.

Luckily, however, I am set to graduate from UNL in a few weeks time. And as that graduation relinquishes me from my title as a student, so does release me from those god-awful comments I made about our football and basketball teams so many moons ago.

I have been ridden with guilt over the years, but am very relieved by the release of this demon (presuming I can get through my last two weeks of pointless graduation requirements). In all seriousness, I love this university and am so thankful for our fanbase that triumphs in so many ways over others. Even more, I am thankful as well for women’s athletics, who have really picked up the burden in so many ways.
