Domann Cleared for Fall Camp & Other Practice Notes

Nebraska head coach Scott Frost addressed the media Friday morning from the second floor of the Hawks Championship Center to update the Husker’s progress in fall camp.

Frost said that junior outside linebacker JoJo Domann has been cleared for fall camp. The 6-foot-1, 235 pounder had been left off the initial 110 man roster but was able to do “some things” at practice Friday morning.

“We kind of picked a date when we both felt like he was going to be ready and he came back when he was supposed to and now he’s back and part of the team,” Frost said. “Everything looks good from that standpoint. I don’t expect it’ll be long with him.”

With Domann back and ready to practice, he’ll provide some much needed depth at linebacker, a position that Frost cited before the start of fall camp as needing “some guys to step up.”

On that front, things seem to be progressing well. Frost said on Friday that he’s been “pleased with the linebackers,” mentioning Alex Davis, Caleb Tannor, Tyrin Ferguson, Garrett Nelson as well as Domann as players that have impressed him thus far.

In other news and notes from practice:

  • Frost said that “every position looks better than it did a year ago” and that he is “having a lot of fun coaching the team.”
  • Frost said that he’s asked his team to slow down the speed at which they practice as they’ve been “a little too reckless.”
  • Frost said that senior corner back Lamar Jackson “looks like a different guy.” Frost also mentioned Dicaprio Bootle, Deontai Williams, Marquel Dismuke and Cam Taylor as the defensive backs that have stood out to him.
  • Frost said that the offense has been doing well for the most part but that they had one bad day in particular where they had a “rash of fumbles”
  • Frost had high praise for his quarterback’s running ability. “I wish this season would come down to a 4×100 relay with our quarterback group against everybody else’s, because we have guys who can run.”
  • Frost said that Dedrick Mills “knows the offense” better than he expected. Overall, Frost said that he’s “pleased with the group.”
  • Frost said that the wide receivers are “night and day” better than last year.
