Does watching Marcus Freeman at ND affect how you feel about Nebraska hiring Mickey Joseph as the full time head coach?

I’m trying to keep an open mind but keep thinking Joseph is the best hire for this job. Why?

Recruiting.

In a short window, he helped bring total difference makers to the team. He’s a proven developer on under recruited players and clearly prioritizes recruiting (to me this is the most important job for the next coach).

Yet, Freeman while younger and less mature than Mickey has encountered some serious growing pains as the Notre Dame head coach. The fan base was ready to move on from Brian Kelly and wanted Freeman as his replacement. And now, the Irish have lost to Ohio State, Marshall and Stanford. It’s clear the QB situation is an issue and the Irish would benefit from their own Palmer-caliber talent at WR.

I wonder if Nebraska fans will be OK waiting for Mickey to get some more seasoning and will tolerate more “on the job training” like we had to deal with Solich and Pelini.

Yet, I keep going back to Mickey because I think he can recruit at an elite level (top 10-15) where as Leipold, Kleiman, Campbell, Rhule, Doeren (and all the other proven coaches we think would take the job, so not counting Mark Stoops) will not really change our recruiting profile.
