Despite Headlines, Frost’s Job Is Actually Very Safe This Year

One thing y’all are forgetting, and the key to the whole thing, is that when Nebraska’s season is over Trev Alberts (the person who will make the decision and whose reputation is on the line) will have been the AD for about 4 or 5 months. If you think he’s realistically going to make a drastic move like this so quickly after taking the position, I’m sorry but you’re not seeing it logically.

He is a level-headed, rational dude above all else. Making a move this year would be terribly risky for him personally as AD, because it could be a no-win situation:

~ if he brings in a new coach that is successful we will just assume he won because Frost built the culture, competitiveness, and program back up; laid the groundwork and foundation.
~ if he brings in a new coach and that coach fails, we all look back and say that Frost was turning it around and the games were closer, he was almost there, and Trev blew it by firing him.

Alberts knows that the schedule next season is easy enough that it can give him cover to fire Frost if the team just does mediocre. He also knows he has never been a part of a anything close to a national coaching search, and the circus that would go along with that. Also the buyout money factor; he’s not tight with these boosters yet.

Even if we lose the last 4 games, the team is not built to get blown out by Purdue, Iowa, or Wisky, so they’d be more “almost there” losses. Maybe tOSU trounce us, but that can be easily explained away.

Nobody is going to run Alberts out of town if he doesn’t fire Frost this year, but the reverse of that is not true if the new coach fails, and he’s got to know that. Put it all together, and you should realize that Alberts isn’t going to risk firing Frost this year, no matter how badly anyone thinks he should, or how much it’s justified.
