Crouch hired as football assistant at Midland University

Former Husker and 2001 Heisman Trophy winner Eric Crouch was named running backs and special teams coach at Midland University on Tuesday, according to a press release.

“I’ve got a passion for the game,” Crouch said in a statement. “I love being around the team and players. I’m now looking for another opportunity to challenge myself and still remain in football. It’s a great opportunity close to home to help their football program out.”

A Millard North graduate, Crouch threw for 4,481 yards and rushed for another 3,434 in his Nebraska career.

Midland athletic director Dave Gillespie, who served as Nebraska’s running backs coach and recruiting coordinator from 1998-2002, served on Frank Solich’s coaching staff when Crouch played at Nebraska.

Gillespie told KLIN that Crouch brings a lot more to their football program than just his past athletic success.

“Eric brings so much to the table,” Gillespie said. “To have someone like Eric who kind of models being a great student, a great athlete, and now has become a great businessman, a great husband, a great father. All of those things are really appealing, and great for our kids to be exposed to.”

The Midland Warriors, an NAIA program based in Fremont, is currently coached by former Husker Jeff Jamrog, who’s entering his third season there. Jamrog was an also an assistant under Solich during Crouch’s time as a player. Jamrog served as the defensive line coach and eventually special teams coordinator from 2000-2003. Jamrog also served as director of football operations at Nebraska during Bo Pelini’s seven-year tenure.

The Warriors have posted winning seasons in each of Jamrog’s first two seasons.
