Creighton Prep tight end Michael Burt commits to rival Iowa over Nebraska

The early Hawkeye offer got the Omaha tight end.

Creighton Prep’s Michael Burt announced his commitment Thursday to Iowa over rival Nebraska. The 6-foot-5, 230-pound Burt visited the two schools on back-to-back weekends, with the Huskers getting the final crack at him on June 16.

Wasn’t enough. NU didn’t offer a scholarship to Burt until he’d already landed one at Iowa, which saw Burt at a June 2 satellite camp near St. Louis. The Hawkeyes liked Burt’s skill set and invited him to a Sunday evening camp at Iowa.

“I got the sense teams were afraid to make the first move because I had been in contact with everyone,” Burt said. “It’s not like they were calling out of the blue. Every single one of them was interested. But Iowa, knowing I made the effort to go to their camp and visit their campus and talk to their coaches, was bold enough to make that offer.”
