Isaac Copeland’s college career ended prematurely on Saturday in a defeat to the Ohio State Buckeyes. It came during a dead ball situation. On the second possession of the second half, Copeland went to dunk the ball after the play was whistled dead on a travelling call. He fell down from the rim, slamming his knee into the hardwood. Before he limped off the floor, he had scored 8 points.
The fifth year senior battled through back problems at Georgetown before finding a new home with the Huskers, transferring to Nebraska back in January of 2017. Copeland was the only five star recruit to ever play for the Nebraska basketball program.
“I am broken hearted for Isaac,” Nebraska Head Coach Tim Miles said in a press release. “He is a young man who had every option available to him last spring, but wanted to come back and help lead the Huskers back to the NCAA Tournament and beyond. He has meant so much to our program and has been a valued leader in the Husker basketball family since arriving on campus two years ago. In typical Isaac fashion, he was the most vocal player in the huddle even after his injury, encouraging his teammates and showing leadership even though he was unable to play.”
On the season, Copeland averaged 14 points and 5.4 rebounds per game.
