Comments / Curiousiities From One Not Thrilled with the Recent Decision

I know the chance of getting downvoted is almost guaranteed, but maybe it is a bit cathartic to put it into writing. Plus, I don’t want it to seem like people not all-in with Frost just disappeared.

Outside of tragic deaths, assaults, and some losses, I am not sure I have ever been less excited about Nebraska football than I am now. I have made it pretty clear that I am not a Frost fan, though I bought into the first year or so. I don’t think it is just that he was retained, but the manner it was explained and received. I think I’m just exhausted while other’s (fans and most media I’ve heard speak out) seem to be invigorated.

Some comments/things I am curious about –

Transfer Portal / Players that may choose to stop playing now:
Responses to any player that might enter the transfer portal or stop playing prior to 2022. It happens every year, but what if a couple key ones choose to leave based on these changes or uncertainty going forward? Did we not need them anyway?

Results:
I anticipate we will win 7 or 8 games in 2022. That’s a big step up in the W/L category for the entire Frost era.
Within that will be at least one blowout loss. If we lose big, I’m curious how it will play out. The W/L record has been big for those that are advocating a coaching change; playing more competitively has been big for those that think we are on the right track.
I think we will be better at Special Teams and maybe takeaways. We will be worse in the other statistical categories, but we will win more of the games we should on paper than we have to date.
Is just winning games/making a bowl game going to be enough? How challenging will it be for Trev to get rid of a coach that got to a bowl game?

Coaching search (if necessary):
Throughout 2021 some arguments have been how we can’t go through the coaching carousel again and, besides, who would want to come here / who is better than Frost? When the announcement was made yesterday, some comments were about how much better/easier it will be finding a coach in 2022. What would change? What makes this a better place to coach following next season than right now?

Recruiting:
The class is really small and not rated highly. I hear this is by design. What if recruiting does suffer because of uncertainty or results? This isn’t quite the same as Callahan or Riley who were coming of their best seasons W/L the year prior to their firing. This isn’t the same as Pelini who continued to win about the same amount of games and won his final game. I think the uncertainty came during the season, but not before it.
