College football on TV: This week’s lineup and your best bets | Football

Volume reading: 8

Band name: Beef Choir

Lead vocals: Torch-passing always happens fast in college football, but it’s sort of amazing still that this is squarely Cam Jurgens’ group going into 2021. Sure, he has other veterans in the room like Matt Sichterman, but Jurgens is essentially a third-year starter in the middle of the offensive line. He’s an explosive athlete and has nearly unlimited potential, but he’s got to take the next step in harnessing it (and his snaps) this fall. If he can, he could be an All-Big Ten-type player. If not? There will be more questions about the young front line. That’s not to say it’s all on him, but the more he’s got his own game refined, the more he can help NU’s other young players up front.

The playlist

1. “Blindsided”: Nebraska is working in essentially a new left tackle in freshman Turner Corcoran, who started last year against Rutgers in place of 40-game stalwart Brenden Jaimes. Now it’s Corcoran’s turn to show that he can handle the job and be a long-term bookend for the Huskers.

2. “Let’s Stay Together”: Nine of NU’s 13 scholarship offensive linemen have at least four years of eligibility remaining. It’s a young group that will have some more growing pains, but could play together for a long time.

3. “Dirt Roads are Great (But the Highway’s Better)”: Three yards and a cloud of dust? That might sound like a fun road trip for a bunch of big, country-lovin’ offensive linemen, but they’d gladly produce consistently nice, paved roads on the field for NU’s running backs to rumble down.
