Nebraska’s interim defensive coordinator Bill Busch met with members of the media following Wednesday’s practice. Busch addressed how the defense is preparing this week.

“It is fun to be backing coaching defense,” Busch said. “A lot of good things are going on. We have had two great days. We had competition Tuesday and turnover Wednesday. These last two days, it was on in practice for us. How hard you have to practice, how important it is for us right there and the detail of it. There was a lot of good-on-good, and even when we do some form of scout looks, it still gets us better looks for game days on Saturdays. We have had great weather, good work for us right there. Injury wise, I feel like we are really healthy.”

Busch commented on the expectations he has for the young players

“Spirited competition,” he said. “All of those guys want to play. There is a lot going on out there. The guys we are going against are really smart, so we have to give our guys a chance to do the best we can. Everything they run is a problem, so we have to have guys that know how to handle living in the hard.”

He discussed how the players have responded to adversity this season.

“These players, it is just incredible how they work and come to practice every day,” Busch said. “Their character. They have been through a lot. There has been some lack of success, there has been changes of coaches at the head coach level and defensive coordinator level. There has been tough losses, there has been some rough halftimes. Wow, have these players responded. There wasn’t ever a time before that they didn’t do that either. I can’t tell you how proud I am to be a coach at Nebraska and be able to coach these players. They are ridiculous on how hard they try and what they do.”

The Huskers will return to action on Saturday, Oct. 1 at 6:30 p.m. against Indiana at Memorial Stadium. The game is set to be broadcasted on BTN, with radio coverage provided by Huskers Radio Network.
