As Purdue shops around for a head coach — the Boilermakers fired Darrell Hazell and his 9-33 record on Sunday — it’d be smart to remember that one Bo Pelini is eager to get back to the Big Ten.

“He would definitely be interested in this job,” a source who coached under Pelini told 247Sports this week. “I think he would make a more immediate impact more than any other guy I believe. He would change that culture real quick.”

While Western Michigan coach P.J. Fleck is the sexiest candidate, and he’d certainly do a good job in West Lafayette, the young up-and-comer has put himself in a position where he shouldn’t have to take on a challenge of this magnitude when he could find himself in the mix for a more high-profile gig.

Les Miles would be an interesting candidate, and the former LSU coach would certainly create a buzz for the Boilermakers that would sell tickets to what’s typically been an empty Ross-Ade Stadium. But the last time Miles was in the Big Ten was when he was a graduate assistant at his alma mater Michigan back in 1981. Pelini — who was Miles’ DC on LSU’s 2007 title team — understands the landscape of the conference better than Miles.
