Nebraska’s offensive and defensive coordinators met with reporters Wednesday for the first time since the firings of Scott Frost and Erik Chinander. Both said the players have responded admirably to a difficult situation.
“They’ve been through a lot,” interim defensive coordinator Bill Busch said after Wednesday’s practice. “I can’t tell you how proud I am to be a coach at Nebraska and be able to coach these players. They are ridiculous on how hard they try and what they do.”
Offensive coordinator Mark Whipple said the players have continued to “do things the right way.”
Busch said there will be some new players in the game Saturday night against Indiana as a result of the competition that has taken place in practice since the Sept. 17 loss to Oklahoma. Keeping things as simple as possible and getting lined up quickly have become top priorities, he said.
On offense, Whipple said a slower tempo is a possibility, depending on what interim head coach Mickey Joseph wants to do in any particular game. He has removed some elements from the game plan that haven’t worked well in the first four games.
