Week Seven.
1 – Oregon
Previous: 35-0 Win over Purdue
Movement: Hold.
Upcoming: Illinois at Home.
Momentary Musing: There really isn’t much to say after their win this week except that I am truly intrigued if Illinois can show up in Eugene at 2:30 in the afternoon. It’s not a night game so the environment might not be as much of a factor.
2 – Penn State
Previous: Bye Week
Movement: Hold.
Upcoming: At Wisconsin.
Momentary Musing: Sorry Penn State. Wisconsin is streaking and this weekend is a night game at Camp Randall. This might be worth the price of the ticket. Upset watch.
3 – Ohio State
Previous: Bye Week
Movement: Hold.
Upcoming: Nebraska at Home.
Momentary Musing: It definitely looks like Ohio State is going to enjoy two consecutive bye weeks since they play Nebraska this week. They are favored by almost 25 points and I would be surprised if it is even that close.
4 – Indiana
Previous: 56-7 Win over Nebraska.
Movement: Hold.
Upcoming: Washington at Home.
Momentary Musing: If I could move Indiana up I would. They looked really good and that is even after considering that Nebraska might just be bad as well. They should be 10-0 when they face Ohio State and that game looks really interesting all of the sudden. At this point finishing the season worse than 11-1 should be considered a disappointment.
5 – Illinois
Previous: 21-7 Win over Michigan.
Movement: Hold.
Upcoming: At Oregon.
Momentary Musing: Kind of like Indiana, when Illinois played Nebraska I saw a good and well coached football team. The game against Michigan never looked in doubt and Bret Bielema appeared to really enjoy beating up on Michigan. It was not as close as the score indicated.
6 – Wisconsin
Previous: 23-3 Win over Northwestern.
Movement: Up 2.
Upcoming: Penn State at Home.
Momentary Musing: Like after last week, I think Wisconsin has figured out that the air raid was not going to work and have gone back to good ole Big Ten Wisconsin football. That is a good win over a streaking Northwestern team that destroyed Maryland the week before and Maryland goes and beats USC this past week. This is a weird season.
7 – Washington
Previous: Bye Week.
Movement: Up 4.
Upcoming: At Indiana.
Momentary Musing: Matt Rhule said that Indiana was a Top 10 team BEFORE he got his butt beat by Indiana. They might be. But this season has found a way to humble a whole bunch of teams. Washington might be the team to do it this week to Indiana.
8- Michigan State
Previous: 32-20 Win over Iowa.
Movement: Up 6.
Upcoming: At Michigan.
Momentary Musing: I really want Michigan State to follow up beating Iowa by beating Michigan. Please. Please. Please. Especially since Michigan admin apparently doesn’t want this game at night AT HOME.
9 – Iowa
Previous: 32-20 Loss to Michigan State.
Movement: Down 2.
Upcoming: Northwestern at Home.
Momentary Musing: Well that is a bad loss and that comes right off the heels of a 40-16 win over Washington. After the Washington game you could see the relief on Kirk Ferentz’s face after that beat down. You could tell the job seat was starting to heat up. Well it’s a new week and things have changed again. I would think that Kirk retires after this season.
10 – Rutgers
Previous: 35-32 Loss to UCLA.
Movement: Down 1.
Upcoming: At USC.
Momentary Musing: What is going on in Rutgers land? That is three straight losses after beating Virginia Tech (at Virginia Tech) and Washington. I actually think that Rutgers will figure things out and maybe they beat USC this weekend. It isn’t too farfetched.
11 – Minnesota
Previous: Bye Week.
Movement: Up 2.
Upcoming: Maryland at Home.
Momentary Musing: The Fighting P.J. Flecks had a bye week to prepare for a Maryland team that just beat USC. I truly have no idea what to expect from this game.
12 – Michigan
Previous: 21-7 Loss to Illinois.
Movement: Hold.
Upcoming: Michigan State at Home.
Momentary Musing: You have to love rivalry games. Especially when the schedule makers put this at night and supposedly the Michigan administration tries to push games away from being at night. For that reason alone, I’ll be pulling for Michigan State.
13 – Maryland
Previous: 29-28 Win over USC.
Movement: Up 5.
Upcoming: At Minnesota.
Momentary Musing: Last week I dropped Maryland four spots to last in the conference Proper Power Rankings and then they go ahead and beat USC who was considered a top four team in the conference at the beginning of the season. Now they get Minnesota next week.
14 – USC
Previous: 29-28 Loss to Maryland.
Movement: Down 4.
Upcoming: Rutgers at Home.
Momentary Musing: Hey Colin Cowherd. How are you doing? You doing ok? USC is not enjoying their first season in the Big Ten. I get a lot wrong but that is at least one thing I got right.
15 – UCLA
Previous: 35-32 Win over Rutgers.
Movement: Hold.
Upcoming: Bye Week.
Momentary Musing: Ok. I do not know what I should think about this team. But I think this is the best win of DeShaun Foster era. UCLA was hanging around the bottom during the first half of the season. Maybe he has some advice for Matt Rhule.
16 – Northwestern
Previous: 23-3 Loss to Wisconsin.
Movement: Hold.
Upcoming: At Iowa.
Momentary Musing: I have hated on Northwestern all season long and I had to take a week off after they blew out Maryland. Well now they got beat handily by Wisconsin and they face an Iowa team that is licking their wounds.
17 – Purdue
Previous: 35-0 Loss to Oregon.
Movement: Hold.
Upcoming: Bye Week.
Momentary Musing: I want to move Purdue back to the bottom this week but unfortunately Nebraska gets that spot.
6 – Nebraska
Previous: Embarrassment. Dreadful. Historic 56-7 Loss to Indiana.
Movement: Down 12.
Upcoming: At Ohio State.
Momentary Musing: Nebraska and Matt Rhule need to do some real soul searching. I don’t know what the answer is but with everything they do on offense it looks like nothing comes easy while teams like Indiana and Illinois make things look easy.
