As Matt Rhule stated in his press conference this week, I think college football is getting to a point that there are no easy or expected wins. I feel like this year has been a season where you truly do not know what to expect.
At least in the Big Ten.
Previous Weeks:
Week Zero.
Week One.
Week Two.
Week Three.
Week Four.
Week Five.
Week Six.
1 – Oregon
Previous: 32-31 Win over Ohio State
Movement: Up 2.
Upcoming: At Purdue.
Momentary Musing: Oregon has now earned the best team in the Big Ten in their first season. It is my belief that Oregon won that game because they actually went through some adversity prior to the matchup with Ohio State. Where Ohio State slept through going undefeated.
2 – Penn State
Previous: 33-30 Win over USC
Movement: Hold.
Upcoming: Bye Week.
Momentary Musing: Great win AT USC. Penn State, Oregon and Ohio State are the flag bearers for the Big Ten and Penn State showed that they should be slated for the playoff.
3 – Ohio State
Previous: 32-31 Loss to Oregon
Movement: Down 2.
Upcoming: Bye Week
Momentary Musing: Oregon is a top 5 team (so far) but I think this loss probably has more to do with the fact that Oregon has been tested multiple times this season and Ohio State has been sleep walking to blowout wins. I would blame the schedule makers on this one.
4 – Indiana
Previous: Bye Week.
Movement: Hold.
Upcoming: Nebraska at Home.
Momentary Musing: Matt Rhule said that Indiana is a Top 10 team. Indiana’s head coach would probably say that if you didn’t know that then just google him.
5 – Illinois
Previous: 50-49 Win over Purdue in OT.
Movement: Hold.
Upcoming: Michigan at Home.
Momentary Musing: There were multiple games this week that made me think maybe I shouldn’t have opinions on sports. I expected Illinois to beat Purdue by way more than Nebraska.
6 – Nebraska
Previous: Bye Week
Movement: Hold.
Upcoming: At Indiana
Momentary Musing: I still think it is lame that Indiana and Nebraska had the same bye week. If Rhule is correct that Indiana is a Top 10 team then I truly wish we didn’t give them an extra advantage. The last I saw, Indiana is a 5.5 point favorite which essentially is a touchdown if my calculator is correct.
7 – Iowa
Previous: 40-16 Win over Washington
Movement: Up 4.
Upcoming: At Michigan State.
Momentary Musing: If you look at their schedule it might be the easiest remaining schedule in the Big Ten though Northwestern and Wisconsin all the sudden look like they are emerging.
8 – Wisconsin
Previous: 42-7 Win over Rutgers
Movement: Up 4.
Upcoming: At Northwestern.
Momentary Musing: Great win over a good Rutgers team. Well at least I thought it was a good Rutgers team. Wisconsin struggled at the beginning of the year and now appear to have found their footing. It sounds like they are getting back to running the ball which is something they should never have strayed from.
9 – Rutgers
Previous: 40-7 Loss to Wisconsin
Movement: Down 2.
Upcoming: UCLA at Home.
Momentary Musing: So did Nebraska break this team? Really disappointing that they not only lost to Wisconsin but got beat down.
10 – USC
Previous: 33-30 Loss to Penn State
Movement: Down 2.
Upcoming: At Maryland.
Momentary Musing: USC was up 20-6 and prominent USC fans (looking at you Colin Cowherd, who I like) said that USC deserved some apologies for being written off. Well now they are starting to be written off and are 3-3. USC is starting to realize that they are no longer in the Pac-12.
11 – Washington
Previous: 42-7 Loss to Iowa.
Movement: Down 2.
Upcoming: Bye Week.
Momentary Musing: Another welcome to the Big Ten for a Pac-12 team? This loss might actually say a lot about Michigan as Washington beat them by 10 the week before.
12 – Michigan
Previous: Bye Week
Movement: Down 2.
Upcoming: At Illinois
Momentary Musing: I still think Illinois is a good team and I hope they can prove it this weekend but as I stated above…maybe Michigan just isn’t that good this year? Lost by 10 to a team that Iowa trucked by 35.
13 – Minnesota
Previous: 21-17 Win Over UCLA
Movement: Hold.
Upcoming: Bye Week.
Momentary Musing: A win is a win is a win even if it is over UCLA. Could say it was a bit of a letdown opportunity after Minnesota beat USC the week prior.
14- Michigan State
Previous: Bye Week
Movement: Up 1.
Upcoming: Iowa at Home.
Momentary Musing: The Spartans are currently on a three game losing streak though two of those losses were to Oregon and Ohio State. This week they get Iowa and then it’s Michigan, Indiana and Illinois. This is a rough stretch for Michigan State.
15 – UCLA
Previous: 21-17 Loss to Minnesota.
Movement: Up 1.
Upcoming: At Rutgers.
Momentary Musing: UCLA is currently 0-4 in the conference and I’m not sure where they are going to pick up a win. Probably Nebraska right?
16 – Northwestern
Previous: 37-10 Win over Maryland.
Movement: Up 1.
Upcoming: Wisconsin at Home.
Momentary Musing: I’ll eat my crow. I been nearly disrespectful to Northwestern this entire season in these Power Rankings. This is not a game I was expecting. If Northwestern finds a way to beat Wisconsin then I will eat Chipotle for dinner.
17 – Purdue
Previous: 50-49 Loss to Illinois.
Movement: Up 1.
Upcoming: Oregon at Home.
Momentary Musing: I turned this game on an former defensive coordinator and current head coach Ryan Walters was calling offensive plays. For some reason I find that extremely interesting and they almost pulled off the upset. Scoring 49 points against Illinois is no joke.
18 – Maryland
Previous: 37-10 Loss to Northwestern
Movement: Down 4.
Upcoming: USC at Home.
Momentary Musing: This is definitely the score I did not see coming and I willing to admit it. I thought Maryland was an above average team that nobody is talking about but they got trucked by a Northwestern team that I didn’t even know had a pulse. They deserve the last spot.
