Previous Weeks:
Week Zero.
Week One.
Week Two.
Week Three.
Week Four.
Week Five.
1 – Ohio State
Previous: 35-7 Win over Iowa
Movement: Hold.
Upcoming: At Oregon
Momentary Musing: FINALLY! Ohio State is playing somebody who should give them a little bit of resistance. I guess you could say that Iowa was that team but they were clearly overmatched offensively. This is definitely appointment television.
2 – Penn State
Previous: 27-11 Win over UCLA
Movement: Hold.
Upcoming: At USC.
Momentary Musing: Is UCLA figuring it out? Or is Penn State not the second best team in the conference? As we have seen this season, you cannot get too upset when you get a win because any team can apparently lose any week.
3 – Oregon
Previous: 31-10 Win over Michigan State.
Movement: Hold.
Upcoming: Ohio State at Home.
Momentary Musing: As stated above, this matchup with Ohio State is appointment television. On a week-by-week basis, I would say that Oregon has come the furthest in terms of improvement. This is a matchup of two top three teams and could go down as the best game of the season.
4 – Indiana
Previous: 41-24 Win over Northwestern.
Movement: Up 2.
Upcoming: Bye Week.
Momentary Musing: It is kind of lame that Indiana and Nebraska share a bye week. Apparently Nebraska is going to need every advantage they can get as most indications are that Indiana is going to be favored by 3+.
5 – Illinois
Previous: Bye Week
Movement: Up 2.
Upcoming: Purdue at Home.
Momentary Musing: This should be a cake walk for Illinois. They should win this game and should be able to beat Michigan which would put them at 6-1 before a matchup with Oregon.
6 – Nebraska
Previous: 14-7 Win over Rutgers.
Movement: Up 4.
Upcoming: Bye Week.
Momentary Musing: I expected Nebraska to lose to Rutgers because I thought it would come down to special teams and I have zero confidence in Nebraska’s special teams. Looks like I was right as Nebraska had two punts blocked. Also looks like I was wrong as Nebraska won the game.
7 – Rutgers
Previous: 14-7 Loss to Nebraska.
Movement: Up 1.
Upcoming: Wisconsin at Home.
Momentary Musing: Right now Rutgers has a 60% chance of winning this game according to FPI. I think that is correct and could even be a little bit higher. However, if you would have told me that Rutgers would be favored over Wisconsin before the season started then I would have said no way.
8 – USC
Previous: 24-17 Loss to Minnesota.
Movement: Down 4.
Upcoming: Penn State at Home.
Momentary Musing: I think this is a tale of a bad matchup for USC and maybe an introduction to the Big Ten for a team that would probably fit better in the revamped Big 12 in terms of play style. I have no qualms that USC will figure it out at some point but they need to develop an offensive line.
9 – Washington
Previous: 27-17 Win over #10 Michigan.
Movement: Up 3.
Upcoming: At Iowa.
Momentary Musing: Washington gets a big win over Michigan who is struggling offensively. Iowa is also struggling offensively but has a really good defense to go with it. Definitely interested in seeing how this one plays out.
10 – Michigan
Previous: 27-17 Loss to Washington.
Movement: Down 5.
Upcoming: Bye Week.
Momentary Musing: Michigan was ranked 10th in the country and Washington was just coming off a loss to Rutgers but it appeared that most people expected Washington to win this game. Michigan is on the struggle bus when it comes to quarterback play and I’m not sure there is a solution this season.
11 – Iowa
Previous: 35-7 Loss to #3 Ohio State
Movement: Down 2.
Upcoming: Washington at Home.
Momentary Musing: Some Iowa fans were thinking the Ohio State game was going to be competitive at least as most people were counting the Hawkeyes out before it even started. Sure looks like they were right.
12 – Wisconsin
Previous: 52-6 Win over Purdue.
Movement: Down 1.
Upcoming: At Rutgers.
Momentary Musing: How many wins are left on Wisconsin’s schedule? I would say that Rutgers, Northwestern, Nebraska, Iowa and Minnesota are possibilities. How many does Wisconsin end up getting?
13 – Minnesota
Previous: 24-17 Win over #11 USC.
Movement: Up 2.
Upcoming: At UCLA.
Momentary Musing: Who knew that all Minnesota needed to right the ship was an “antidote of confidence” in the form of Sprite? If you don’t know what I’m talking about then google it.
14 – Maryland
Previous: Bye Week.
Movement: Down 1.
Upcoming: Northwestern at Home.
Momentary Musing: Maryland might be the best team in the conference that nobody is talking about. They should beat Northwestern pretty handily.
15 – Michigan State
Previous: 31-10 Loss to #6 Oregon.
Movement: Down 1.
Upcoming: Bye Week.
Momentary Musing: Not getting any gifts from the schedule makers in having to play Oregon and Ohio State two weeks in a row. Time for a get right week before a matchup with Iowa. The schedule doesn’t get easy but it does get easier.
16 – UCLA
Previous: 27-11 Loss to #7 Penn State.
Movement: Hold.
Upcoming: Minnesota at Home.
Momentary Musing: There might be nothing more that I want out of this weekend than PJ Fleck losing to UCLA. It’s nothing personal with Minnesota.
17 – Northwestern
Previous: 41-24 Loss to #23 Indiana.
Movement: Hold.
Upcoming: At Maryland.
Momentary Musing: Are they going to get a conference win this season? They now have a chance over the next four games against Maryland, Wisconsin, Iowa and then Purdue. I would expect them to get Purdue but other than that? I’m not sure.
18 – Purdue
Previous: 52-6 Loss to Wisconsin.
Movement: Hold.
Upcoming: At Illinois.
Momentary Musing: Just so Purdue knows, Bret Bielema will put up 70 points on you and he does not care. This could get ugly.
