Best and worst player on the team

So, admittedly I don’t have cable, and so must scrounge YouTube for game highlight videos to watch the Huskers play. Based upon the highlights (or lowlights in some cases) I wanted to comment on who I thought was playing their best on the team vs the worst.

DISCLAIMER: I’m not a coach and have no real expert analysis, amateur observations.

Best player: Wan’dale Robinson

Whenever he is in the game he is a big play threat and is one of the only players that opponents attempt to scheme out of the offense. In the highlights I watch, he’s quick and decisive, and seems to know the playbook better than his peers in the WR room. He has sure hands, runs routes well, and his after the catch yardage is something our team needs with our short passing game. Add I the fact that he can play running back and I think he continues to be our offensive MVP as long as he plays here.

Worst player: Garrett Nelson

What happened to him? His first year playing he made mistakes, but he played fast and angry and would make plays. And now? Whenever I see a big run play by the other team, he was almost guaranteed to be a big part of it. Not setting the edge, missing tackles, getting pancaked, not getting off blocks. They play him more like a down 4-3 lineman than 3-4 olb, and if you’re going to do that…well, I’d rather see an actual lineman on the field than him. Maybe he could be a full back or something, but his edge rushing and run defense are being taken advantage of by opposing teams. Maybe we could use his as a fullback, or tight-end or something, just anything not related to the defensive line.

I would love to read your thoughts on who is playing well and “not so well” below. Try to keep it civil and if you know more about actual football analysis, feel free to refute or add as you will.
