Beach Season Wraps Up for Husker Volleyball in California

The Nebraska beach volleyball team’s historic 2024 campaign came to a close over the weekend in Long Beach, California.

The Huskers fell 3-2 to Texas and 5-0 to No. 7 Long Beach State in their final two matches on Saturday. While the results didn’t go NU’s way, it capped a record-breaking 16-win season that has the program’s trajectory pointing straight up.

“I couldn’t be more proud of the way this team competed from the first tournament all the way through the last one,” said head coach Lindsay Peterson. “We set a new standard for Nebraska beach volleyball this year.”

Against the Longhorns, the Husker pairs of Olivia Mauch/Harper Murray and Maisie Boesiger/Andi Jackson each recorded third-set victories to account for Nebraska’s two points.

Boesiger and Jackson were also the lone NU duo to extend Long Beach to three sets, ultimately dropping a hard-fought 16-14 decision in the final frame against the 49ers’ No. 5 pair.

While the Huskers couldn’t quite get over the hump against the elite competition, the 2024 season represented a major step forward. Nebraska shattered the previous program wins record of 13 set in 2019.

The rapid development is a credit to the coaching staff’s recruiting efforts and ability to mold the talented roster into a cohesive unit capable of consistently competing with the nation’s best.

“From top to bottom, our players just completely bought in this year,” said Peterson. “They worked incredibly hard and held each other to a high standard every single day. It’s been so fun to see this group grow together.”

With a number of key contributors set to return next season, including All-Americans Lexi Rodriguez and Lindsay Krause, the future looks extremely bright for Husker beach volleyball.

The returning core, combined with another injection of young talent, should have Nebraska firmly entrenched among the top 15-20 teams nationally in 2025.

After taking huge strides this spring, NU will look to take that pivotal next step towards being a consistent championship contender in the beach game.

“We were knocking on the door this year,” said Peterson. “But we aren’t going to be satisfied until we kick that door down and make a real national splash. This was just the beginning for our program.”
