Badura Fires Record 63 at State Amateur

Husker men’s golfer Caleb Badura shot a Nebraska Amateur Championship record 63 (-9) to storm to the top of the individual leaderboard on Thursday at Lochland Country Club in Hastings.

Badura, a senior from Aurora, Neb., scorched the 7,043-yard, par-72 course at Lochland on a hot day in Hastings with eagles on No. 1 (500-yard, par-5) and No. 18 (547-yard, par-5), surrounding birdies on No. 7, No. 9, No. 10, No. 11 and No. 14, while producing par on the 11 other holes to finish with a record round. He posted a 32 on the front nine and a 31 on the back at Lochland to gain 10 strokes on the tournament leader. Badura heads into Friday’s final round tied for the tournament lead at 207 through 54 holes.

Badura, who was the 2019 Nebraska State Match Play champion, was the runner-up at the 2019 Nebraska Amateur Championship before being named the 2019 Nebraska Golf Association Co-Amateur of the Year.

Fellow Husker senior Tristan Nelko (Plymouth, Minn.) also put up a terrific score with a 66 (-6) on Thursday, vaulting into a three-way tie for third at 208, just one stroke behind the leaders. Reed Malleck (York, Neb.), another current Husker, remains in the hunt for a top-10 finish. He sits in a three-way tie for 15th at 216, joining former Husker Calvin Freeman in that position.
