B1G / BIGXII “alignment”

What if the B1G approached the BigXII and said we will do a scheduling alliance with you and have you be a sort of “contracted” conference. We will still be separated for academic reasons but will align for athletic purposes. We will keep the current revenue splits each team has received but all incremental revenue will be split evenly. For example current B1G payout was around $54 million per team BigXII was around $35 million. Revenue would drop for BigXII with TX and OU leaving but lets say the incremental revenue would be $100million that would be an extra $4.5 million per school but travel costs would decrease a bit.

You could do an all “conference” schedule with an East/West split

West: Bay – IA – ISU – KS – KSU – MN – NE – Okie St – TCU – WI

East – IL – IN -MD – MI – MSU – NW – OSU – PSU – PU – Rut – WV

Balance matters a bit but not as much because the new playoff format would allow 3-4 teams from this “conference” to go to the playoff (SEC is aiming for 6 with their new format). You could also do PODS but they would be slightly unbalanced…

I loved the “extra game” in the B1G last year and that could serve as a Semi-final for PODS while other teams play for runner up spots. The conference championship game could play after a 3-4 place game…
