Anton Gill to Miss Rest of Year with Knee Injury

A Nebraska basketball team that wasn’t deep at the guard position to begin with, took a blow to that depth Sunday when junior guard Anton Gill went down with a ruptured patella tendon in his right knee. That knee also kept him sidelined for much of the summer conditioning and fall practice schedule. He will miss the remainder of the season.

Gill transferred to Nebraska after playing his first two seasons at Louisville. The former top 50 ranked recruit sat out last season due to transfer redshirt rules, he was expected to step in and fill the void left by departing senior Shavon Shields and graduate transfer Andrew White, III. Gill had found that role a bit too lofty to start the season. He struggled for much of the year to score or get an any sort of rhythm offensively. The past four games, however, he had seen his minutes increase and was seemingly beginning to find that scoring punch that had been so elusive. In his last game vs. Southern, he matched his season high of 10 points, including hitting on two of three attempts from beyond the arc.
