An Alternative Take on Trev’s Departure:

There are two prominent lines of reasoning for Trev's departure.

  1. Admin/Regents/Politics:

People argue that Trev has been angry about the lack of a replacement for Carter as president and the associated long-term vacancy. However, there is evidence against this line of reasoning. It has now come out that Trev was applying for alternative positions before Ted even left the President role, such as Big Ten Commissioner or CFP executive. Please correct me on any of these dates, but even if it was after Ted left, it was a short time. He still could be upset with Regents/admin/political figures, but his desire to leave does not seem recent. It appears Trev has wanted to go for a while. Furthermore, Ted Carter leaving for Ohio State, one of the country's largest and most prestigious public institutions, is unsurprising. It is a promotion, and he has no direct Nebraska ties (to my knowledge).

  1. Money:

Given his recent pay raise and high ranking in AD pay, this seems less likely. Granted, I have yet to see his pay package, and I will fully walk this back if his income is much higher at A&M when contract details come out. That has driven a lot of negative vitriol online.

Real Reason:

Instead, I see this as a choice by Trev driven by prestige. He sees himself as too big for Nebraska, and the AD job was a stepping stone to even bigger things. In some ways, this makes his loving statements about Nebraska even worse.

I am trying to figure this out in good faith, and I think we are ignoring his personal ego and personality traits (there is some evidence at ESPN, too). I'm happy to be proven wrong and shown alternative evidence.

Edit: It took 214 days to name Ted Carter president, currently at 206 days since him. Maybe not so extreme of a long search ………………………
