Nebraska’s 2026 season splits cleanly into two halves. The Huskers opened 5-0, scoring 218 points in five games. Since then: three losses by a combined 13 points (official schedule). The record is 5-3 overall and 2-3 in Big Ten play.
Six wins is the usual line for bowl eligibility. Nebraska needs one more.
The remaining schedule
From the official 2026 schedule, checked Nov. 1:
| Date | Opponent | Site | Kickoff (CT) | TV |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Fri. Nov. 6 | at Illinois | Champaign, Ill. | 7:00 p.m. | FOX (ESPN) |
| Sat. Nov. 14 | at Rutgers | Piscataway, N.J. | TBA | TBA |
| Sat. Nov. 21 | vs. Ohio State | Memorial Stadium | TBA | TBA |
| Fri. Nov. 27 | at Iowa | Iowa City, Iowa | 11:00 a.m. | CBS (ESPN) |
Three of the four are on the road. Nebraska is 1-1 away from Lincoln this season, with the win at Michigan State and the loss at Oregon. Rutgers’ TV window and the Ohio State kickoff are not announced on the schedule page yet. HuskersToday will update when they post.

Scenarios, plainly
- Win at Illinois: 6-3, bowl eligible with three to play, and the losing streak ends before the Ohio State week.
- Lose at Illinois, win at Rutgers: 6-4, bowl eligible, but the streak reaches four before it ends.
- Lose both road games: 5-5 entering Ohio State and Iowa, and the season’s ceiling becomes a question of eligibility.
This is not a prediction. It is the arithmetic of a team that has been playing one-score games for a month.
Why the margin matters
Nebraska’s last three losses were 20-17 to Indiana (huskers.com), 17-14 at Oregon (huskers.com) and 17-10 to Washington (ESPN). That is a team close to good teams, and that should be said clearly. It is also a team that has lost every close game against them. The first trait is a foundation. The second is the season.
The Illinois game is the swing point. Illinois is also 5-3 and has won three straight, including 21-10 over Oregon (ESPN Illinois schedule). If Nebraska is going to flip the close-game script, Friday is the cleanest chance on the calendar.
