2004 Nebraska v Creighton Volleyball Match in… North Platte?

Hey all. I’m researching the history between Creighton and Nebraska’s volleyball match ups for a little project I’m doing. I was scrolling through the match history listed on NU’s website ([https://huskers.com/sports/womens-volleyball/opponent-history/creighton-university/159](https://huskers.com/sports/womens-volleyball/opponent-history/creighton-university/159), if you’re curious), and noticed all of the matches were played in Lincoln or Omaha as you’d expect. All except one. In 2004, the two teams squared off in North Platte, NE at the local public high school’s gymnasium.

I thought this was really curious and was wondering if any of you might have some insight into the reason for this? All I could find through googling was a a HuskerMax recap of the match, but it doesn’t mention why they played in NP.

Was it just an exhibition to provide some fun for NU fans out west? Were both the Qwest Center and Coliseum undergoing renovations or previously reserved?

Would love to hear from some old guard fans who might remember the match and the reason.

Wrong answers also acceptable.
