Nine of the 10 Nebraska football players wearing honorary single-digit jerseys in 2024 play on the defense.
In a photo posted to social media, NU announced the players who’d either retained the jersey from last year or earned the jersey, via a vote by teammates, for 2024.
Nose tackle Nash Hutmacher (0), rover Isaac Gifford (2), linebacker John Bullock (5), safety DeShon Singleton (8) and defensive end Ty Robinson (9) retained the jerseys they earned in 2023. Defensive end Jimari Butler (1), cornerback Marques Buford (3), receiver Jahmal Banks (4), cornerback Tommi Hill (6) and nickel back Malcolm Hartzog (7) earned them for the 2024.
In the tradition started by Nebraska football coach Matt Rhule, any Husker who earns the single-digit jersey retains the right to keep them the following year, although the majority of the jersey-wearers are playing their final season at Nebraska.
