Monday was a 106-64 tune-up against Le Moyne. Saturday is the first real measuring stick. Nebraska faces Providence in the Basketball Hall of Fame Tip-Off at Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Conn., at 6 p.m. CT on FS1.
It is the first meeting ever between the programs. The Hall of Fame doubleheader opens with Rhode Island vs Monmouth at 3 p.m. CT on NESN Nation.
The Huskers
Nebraska is coming off a school-record 28 wins and a Sweet 16 run. Pryce Sandfort, a first-team All-Big Ten pick last season at 18.1 points per game and a Naismith Trophy watch list name this week, scored 20 in the opener. Cale Jacobsen added a career-high 16 and the Huskers handed out 24 assists against eight turnovers.
When the game was announced in May, Fred Hoiberg called it “an early opportunity to test ourselves against a very good BIG EAST opponent.” Nebraska has won its last three games against Big East teams, dating to 2024-25.
The Friars
Providence is in year one under Bryan Hodgson, who led South Florida to the American Conference title before taking the job. The Friars tied for seventh in the Big East last season and played in this event a year ago, losing 107-101 in overtime to Virginia Tech.
“Coach Hoiberg does a phenomenal job, and it will be a great non-conference test for us,” Hodgson said in May.
