Nebraska’s best two shooters were as good as anyone in Statesboro on Sunday. It was not quite enough. No. 9 Georgia Southern beat the No. 5 Huskers 4,726-4,707 at the Shooting Sports Education Center, and Nebraska dropped to 3-5.
How it was decided
The match was close after the first gun. Georgia Southern shot 2,342 in smallbore to Nebraska’s 2,339, a three-point edge. The Eagles then posted 2,384 in air rifle to Nebraska’s 2,368, and that 16-point gap decided it.
Sullivan and Perkins at the top
Katlyn Sullivan and Alivia Perkins each shot a 1,184 aggregate. Per Nebraska Athletics, Sullivan finished first and Perkins third, with the order set by inner tens. Georgia Southern’s Emme Walrath also shot 1,184 and was second.
Perkins shot 588 in smallbore and Sullivan 587. In air rifle, Sullivan posted a 597 and Perkins a 596.
The rest of Nebraska’s smallbore lineup: Carley Seabrooke 583, Hannah Gallagher 581, Maddy Moyer 578 and Charlie Mick 577. In air rifle, Mick and Gallagher each shot 588, Seabrooke 587 and Moyer 582.
For Georgia Southern, Walrath’s 589 was the top smallbore score of the day and Bremen Butler’s 597 won the air rifle.
What Clark said
“We battled hard today and saw some great things transfer over from practice that we’ve been working on the last couple of weeks,” head coach Richard Clark said in Nebraska’s release. “It was great to see Katlyn and Alivia have great performances in both guns, helping lead the way today.”
