Three Huskers to Compete at USATF Olympic Trials

Three Nebraska track and field athletes will compete at the USATF Olympic Team Trials next week at Hayward Field in Eugene, Oregon.

Maddie Harris (javelin), Luke Siedhoff (110-meter hurdles) and Mayson Conner (high jump) will all compete for a chance to represent the U.S. at the Olympic Games in Tokyo next month.

Women’s javelin qualifying begins Friday, June 25 at 3 p.m., and the final is Saturday, June 26 at 7:30 p.m. Harris will be competing against 24 other athletes in the competition.

The first round of the men’s 110-meter hurdles will take place on Friday, June 25 at 4:33 p.m. (CT), and the semifinals will be held Saturday, June 26 at 8:03 p.m. with the final to follow at 9:51 p.m. Siedhoff is one of 32 declared athletes in the field.

Finally, men’s high jump qualifying will begin at 5 p.m. CT on Friday, June 25, and the final is set for Sunday, June 27 at 3:30 p.m. Conner is one of 25 declared high jumpers.

In addition to the three Huskers, former NU standout Chantae McMillan is declared in the javelin.

To qualify for the Olympic Games, athletes must finish in the top three in their events and also own the Olympic qualifying standard. Thus, if an athlete finishes fourth and owns the standard but one of the top three do not, the third and final qualifying spot goes to the next person with the standard. The Olympic qualifying standards for the three events are: javelin (64.00m), 110-meter hurdles (13.32) and men’s high jump (2.33m). The three Husker athletes would have to meet those qualifying standards next week.

The U.S. Olympic Trials can be watched live on the NBC family of networks.
