Smith Voted Academic All-District – University of Nebraska



Nebraska women’s golfer Kate Smith added another honor to her remarkable fifth season as a Husker, when she was voted a first-team Academic All-America All-District 7 selection by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) on Thursday, July 8.

Smith, a WGCA and Golfweek All-American, was the 2021 Big Ten Conference individual champion. She led Nebraska to a tie for second at the conference championship – NU’s best conference team finish since 1984. Smith, who earned her bachelor’s degree from Nebraska in May of 2021, posted a 3.59 GPA as a graphic design major during her academic career.

A two-time WGCA Scholar All-American and two-time Big Ten Distinguished Scholar, Smith was the Big Ten’s Mary Fossum Award winner in 2020 and a two-time first-team All-Big Ten selection. She capped her collegiate career by.helping power the United States to a team victory in the annual Arnold Palmer Cup in June. In addition to being the first Husker in history to compete in the Arnold Palmer Cup, Smith was also the first Husker to compete in the Augusta National Women’s Amateur Championship. 

Smith hopes to become just the second CoSIDA Academic All-America women’s golfer in school history, joining 1996 award winner Heidi Wall (Stark).

Smith was joined by fellow Husker and two-time Big Ten diving champion Abigail Knapton on the CoSIDA Academic All-District 7 At-Large team. A six-time All-American, Knapton was Nebraska’s Female Student-Athlete of the Year in 2021.

The CoSIDA Academic All-America first, second and third teams in the At-Large division will be announced in early August.
