Shelley Helps Australia to Victory



Nebraska’s Jaz Shelley scored seven points to go along with three rebounds, three assists and three steals to help the Australian National Team roll to a 120-56 women’s basketball win over the Philippines at the FIBA Asia Cup in Amman, Jordan on Tuesday.

Shelley, a 5-9 guard from Moe, Australia, hit 3-of-7 shots from the field, including 1-of-3 three-pointers, in just under 21 minutes of action to help the Opals improve to 2-0 in Group B pool play at the tournament. For the second straight game, Shelley put up Australia’s best plus-minus, as the Opals were plus-39 with Shelley on the court.

Through two games in the Asia Cup, Shelley is averaging 6.5 points, 2.0 rebounds, 2.0 assists and 2.0 steals off the bench for Australia.

Shelley and the Opals will be back in action tomorrow for a showdown with unbeaten China at 7:50 a.m. (CT). China improved to 2-0 in pool play with a 124-50 victory over Chinese Taipei earlier Tuesday. Australia’s game with China will be streamed live for subscribers of ESPN+.
