Rapid Reaction: Blackshirt Day at Nebraska, NU looking forward to Illinois | Football

Some of the great defenders in Nebraska football history were on hand Monday to help distribute Blackshirts to a group of current Huskers that have earned them during preseason camp.

Cam Taylor-Britt said he received his black jersey from new athletic director Trev Alberts, while safety Marquel Dismuke said he got his from Kenny Wilhite. 

Other players that received Blackshirts on Monday: Defensive linemen Ben Stille, Ty Robinson, Deontre Thomas and Damion Daniels, safety Deontai Williams, outside linebackers JoJo Domann, Garrett Nelson and Caleb Tannor and inside linebackers Nick Henrich and Luke Reimer. 

Martinez ‘pumped’: Junior quarterback Adrian Martinez said he was humbled to be the first three-time captain in Nebraska history and “pumped” for the first game of the year against Illinois. 

The quarterback said he still gets butterflies and nerves before games, but added that he’s confident in where he and the NU offense are currently and that he’s excited for the season to finally be here. 

Allen ready to roll: Nebraska tight end Austin Allen said the tight ends group has had its depth tested during preseason camp, but that he likes the progress young players like Chancellor Brewington and Chris Hickman have made. 

Allen missed some practice time earlier in camp and acknowledged that camp was “a grind,” but sounded like he was ready to roll against Illinois.
