Random Acts of Christmas

“Random Acts of Christmas” is a concept we came up with at KLIN in 2013. The concept was pretty simple.  Instead of simply giving something away to a contest winner during the Christmas season, we wanted to give away the chance to…give to someone else. To that end, we gave people envelopes with $50 or $100 bills inside of them along with a letter that had one simple request: Give it away in the spirit of Christmas, and tell us how you did it. In some years we left the envelopes in random places for people in the community to find, in other years we gave them to specific listeners, and in some years the KLIN staff actually found creative ways to give the cash away themselves. The hope was that in hearing the stories told by those who did the random acts of christmas, whether through letters, emails, videos, social media posts or phone calls, we’d not only entertain our listeners, but inspire them to do their own ‘random acts’. And that’s exactly what’s happened. Each year we’ve done this we’ve heard from listeners or groups who decided to use their own money to perform additional random acts, and told us about the results.

In 2017, the 5th year of RAC, we want to continue to bring these stories to our listeners, and with LNK Today with Jack & Friends’ new format, where there’s a new guest ‘friend’ in studio every day, we saw a great opportunity. So, this December, every guest/’friend’ appearing on the show will be given a $100 bill and asked to give it away before their appearance, however they see fit, and then will tell us about the experience on the show. We’ll feature a Random Acts of Christmas story from a ‘friend’ every weekday at 7:35a from December 4-22.
