Meyers Called Up By Houston Astros

Jake Meyers is the latest Nebraska baseball product to reach the Major Leagues, as the Houston Astros called up the former All-America outfielder on Friday.

It marks the first MLB call-up for Meyers, who started the year with Triple-A Sugar Land and hit .343 with 16 home runs, 51 RBI and 52 runs scored. He will wear uniform No. 6 for the Astros.

Meyers was drafted by the Astros in the 13th round (391st overall) of the 2017 MLB Draft. He is the 37th Husker to play in the Majors and the first since Aaron Bummer in 2017.

A native of Omaha, Meyers was a three-year letterwinner at Nebraska from 2015 to 2017. The two-way standout was a third-team All-American as a junior and a two-time All-Big Ten and Academic All-Big Ten selection. Meyers was a career .307 hitter and finished 17-4 on the mound with a 2.61 ERA and 112 strikeouts.
