Malleck Leads Huskers in Lineup Debut



Reed Malleck made his debut in Nebraska’s lineup at the Rod Myers/Duke Invitational with an opening-round 71 (-1) before closing the day in a tie for 25th through 36 holes in Durham, N.C., on Saturday.

A sophomore from York, Neb., Malleck followed his 71 in the first round with a second-round 74 (+2) on the par-72, 7,154-yard layout at the Duke University Golf Club. His one-over-par two-round total of 145 led the Huskers, who enter Sunday’s final round in ninth place in the strong 14-team field that includes seven 2021 NCAA Regional qualifiers.

Fellow sophomore Gentry Scheve (Emporia, Kan.) also fired an opening-round 71 to match Malleck, before adding a second-round 76 (+4). Scheve posted Nebraska’s second-best 36-hole total of the day at 146 (+2) to sit in a tie for 31st.

Seniors Tom Westenberger and Caleb Badura produced Nebraska’s best scores of the second round. Westenberger (Wuppertal, Germany) and Badura (Aurora, Neb.) posted rounds of 71 (-1) to help the Huskers put together a second-round score of 291. NU closed the day with a two-round team score of 588, including an opening-round 297.

Westenberger (T43rd, 148) and Badura (T49th, 149) join Malleck and Scheve in the top 50 in the individual standings heading into Sunday’s final round.

Mark Foelbaek rounded out Nebraska’s lineup on Saturday with a pair of 78s.

North Carolina’s Ryan Gerard leads the individual leader board heading into the final round at 133 (-11) after rounds of 67 and 66 Saturday. North Carolina State’s Maximilian Steinlechner sits just two shots back in second at 135 (-9) after rounds of 67 and 68.

The Huskers conclude action at the Rod Myers/Duke Invitational with tee times beginning at 6:35 a.m. (CT). Live scoring will be available at GolfStat.com.
