Lundin, Foelbaek Earn Top-Five Finishes



LincolnMark Foelbaek fired a final-round 67 while teammate Jack Lundin added an even-par 71 to tie for fifth individually and lead the Nebraska men’s golf team at the Git-R-Done Husker Invitational at Firethorn Golf Club on Sunday.

Foelbaek, a senior from Jelling, Denmark, carded his best career round as a Husker while tying for the second-best individual round of the day on the 7,040-yard, par-71 layout at Firethorn. Foelbaek’s sensational round included five birdies, 12 pars and one bogey, as he stormed 12 spots up the leader board in the final round to record the first top-five finish of his Husker career.

Lundin, a freshman from Sioux Falls, S.D., continued his strong and consistent play on Sunday to record his second top-five individual finish in Nebraska’s last three tournaments. Lundin matched Foelbaek with a career-best three-round total of 213 (E) to help the Huskers to a fourth-place team finish at 871 (+19).

A third Husker, Caleb Badura (Aurora, Neb.) joined Foelbaek and Lundin in a tie for fifth at 213 with his final-round 73, while playing as an individual outside the Nebraska lineup.

Tom Westenberger (Wuppertal, Germany) contributed his third consecutive top-20 individual finish by tying for 18th (218) with a final-round 75 (+4). Branden Meyer (Gilbert, Ariz.) completed Nebraska’s 289 team score in the final round with a 76 (+5). Meyer tied for 46th (230).

Will Marshall (Elburn, Ill.) completed Nebraska’s lineup by matching Meyer at 46th (230) for the tournament, including a 78 in Sunday’s third round. 

Minnesota and Kansas State shared the team title with three-round totals of 852. Michigan State finished seven shots back at 859, 12 strokes ahead of the Huskers. The Big Red finished 13 shots ahead of fifth-place Eastern Michigan.

Minnesota’s Angus Flanagan captured individual medalist honors with a 54-hole score of 207 (-6), including a tournament-best final-round 66 (-5). Kansas State’s Tim Tillmanns and Michigan State’s Troy Taylor II tied for second at 208 (-5). MSU’s James Piot claimed fourth at 210 (-3), just ahead of Huskers Foelbaek, Lundin and Badura who all tied for fifth at 213.

Nebraska returns to action at the Big Ten Conference Championship at the Crooked Stick Golf Club in Carmel, Ind., April 30-May 2.
