Live from BugahaWest: The sun still came up Sunday morning

Dear fellow Husker fans,

I don’t even know where to start this week.  I was cheering loud and proud, getting all giddy after NU went up 21-3.  I should have known then but my heart was out-running my mind.  The 21 points were actually a smoke screen, a ruse if you may.  I should have known as that third quarter kept on going and going.  Have any of you ever been to a sporting event where you were so downhearted you actually watched the clock ticking down instead of the game?  Last Saturday would have made second time in my life if 2 things didn’t happen.  First, the NU fumble to start the 4th quarter and secondly my bride telling me you should really get some sleep before work tonight.

I have sat through many a aching football game.  I have seen so many things occur on the football field (that Texas Tech game play Thurs. night was a new one on me.  You make the call on the kid dropping the ball on the 1 foot line.  I still don’t know if the refs got the call right).  I have seen NU steamroll teams and seen them get steamrolled.  But Saturday during that 3rd quarter I saw something I never seen before.  I believe the defensive coaches gave up and in turn the team did to.  Did you see that?  Rush 4 keep 7 back and let Hundley play Doogie Howser MD surgically slicing the Blackshirts.  And when a blitz was called, Cooper gets nailed for a roughing the passer (to be honest he was in a no-win situation there.  If he had his hands up and pushed him it would still have been called.

Time for some quick points.

1.  Nebraska really only scored 7 points.  14 points came on a short field after a botched punt and a INT.   The drive that led to the previously mentioned fumble and the 92 yard scoring drive was the only sustained offense.

2.  AA goes for almost 100 but it ook almost 30 carries.  IC has 18 on 3 carries?  Is Cross in the doghouse?

3.  I’m not saying either way whether Coach Pelini should stay or go, but let me leave you with this tidbit.  Those that want a new coach I have one question who would you rather have.  There is a few restrictions on this naming a new coach.  First, you have to be realistic, so no Mike Tomlins, Sean Peyton, Nick Saban, or Lou Holtz.  Secondly the name either has to be part of the Husker family or a realistic big name.  Shoot some names out in the comments and next week I’ll see if I can’t give you a yes or no answer.  Oh yeah, if you make the switch, does the entire staff go to or do you keep some of the coordinators (and again, who do you keep).

Finally, I actually do have 2 game balls to give out, Stanley Jean Baptiste and Kenny Bell.  They played hard as far as I could tell.

On to next week, God bless and Go Big Red.

-Chris
