LeBlanc, Timko Named to Canada Soccer Hall of Fame

Former Husker soccer standouts Karina LeBlanc and Brittany Timko Baxter have each earned a spot in the Canada Soccer Hall of Fame as members of the Class of 2020.

“To be inducted into the Canada Soccer Hall of Fame is an incredible honor for both Brittany and Karina,” Nebraska Head Coach John Walker said. “They have both accomplished so much during their long and successful careers and they have been instrumental in helping the Canadian women’s team evolve into one of the world’s best teams. Their careers on and off the field have been legendary and they are inspiration to all of our players here at Nebraska.”

LeBlanc served as Nebraska’s goalkeeper from 1997 to 2000 and holds the school records for goals-against average (0.54), career wins (60) and career shutouts (45.5). She shares the school records in games started in goal (69) and games played in goal (80). During her four years at Nebraska, the Huskers advanced to the Sweet 16 of the NCAA Tournament each year, including an Elite Eight appearance in 1999.

On the international stage, LeBlanc is Canada’s only two-time Concacaf champion and first five-time FIFA Women’s World Cup participant. She represented Canada on the international stage for 18 years from 1998 to 2015, making 110 international “A” appearances and retired as the second-longest serving member in Women’s National Team Program history. LeBlanc won six Concacaf medals (including gold in 1998 and 2010), two Pan American Games medals (including gold in 2011) and bronze at the London 2012 Olympic Games.

Timko, who played for Nebraska from 2003 to 2006, earned third-team All-America honors in 2004 and 2005. The three-time Big 12 Player of the Year ended her career with 41 goals and 42 assists over 71 appearances, including 68 starts. Timko holds the school record for single-season assists (21). During her four years at Nebraska, the Huskers qualified for three NCAA Tournaments, advancing to the Sweet 16 in 2004.

Timko medaled as part of the 2012 Olympic Team and is a three-time FIFA Women’s World Cup participant. She made 132 international “A” appearances during her career, won five medals from five Concacaf tournaments and one Pan American Games medal. Playing across multiple positions from fullback to midfield to forward, she scored five goals and tallied eight assists. At the youth level, she won silver at the FIFA U-19 Women’s World Championship Canada 2002, won the Concacaf Women’s Under-20 Championship in 2004, and won the Golden Boot as the top scorer at the FIFA U-19 Women’s World Championship Thailand 2004.

The Canada Soccer Hall of Fame has enshrined 129 players, 13 managers/coaches, 10 officials and 41 builders since 2000.
