Incoming Freshman Pepe with Highest Collegiate Finish at Junior U.S. Championships



Fort Worth, TEXAS – Incoming Husker freshman gymnast, Joey Pepe, finished third at the U.S. Championships in the Junior men division 17-19 on Saturday, June 5th. His combined total score of 153.050 was the highest of any incoming freshman in the NCAA.

Pepe, a Peoria, Arizona native, finished in the top four on four of the six events during the Championships. Pepe had his highest event finish on high bar earning a combined score of 25.55, notching a 12.95 on day one and a 12.60 on day two. 

The incoming freshman finished in third on both rings and vault with a combined total of 25.65 and 27.80, respectively. 

Finishing in fourth, Pepe earned a 25.75 combined total score on parallel bars. 

Pepe earned a 12th-place finish on pommel horse after a 10.75 score on day one and a 12.15 score on day. 

Rounding out the all-around competition, Pepe finished in 15th on floor with a combined total score of 23.80 after two days of competition. 

Pepe rounds out an impressive incoming freshman that was ranked third by the College Gymnastics Association. Joining Pepe are freshmen Chris Hiser and Travis Wong, and Minnesota-transfer Donte McKinney.
