Following practice Tuesday, Nebraska football coordinators Erik Chinander and Matt Lubick met with members of the media over video conference to discuss the Huskers’ Week 2 matchup against No. 9 Wisconsin.

Lubick discussed the offensive line’s performance in the season opener and the potential it showed for the rest of the season.

“We were proud of the way our guys stood up physically,” Lubick said. “We won some battles, we lost some battles, but there was huge improvement from last year’s game. We have to keep improving, but that was a step in the right direction.”

Chinander noted the importance of stopping the run against conference opponents and what needs to be done ahead of the next game to execute that successfully.

“In the Big Ten, you have to stop the run every week,” Chinander said. “That’s got to be a primary focus.. We could have stopped the run a little better, and we have to tighten up the coverage. We just have to get everything tightened up a little bit. We have to get our stunts and pressures tightened up a little bit.”

Both Lubick and Chinander discussed what they expect to see from Wisconsin this weekend and the differences between preparing for the team’s first two opponents this season.

“These guys play really fast,” Lubick said. “They do a good job of throwing different things at you, and everything they do different, they do well. They are not going to be stagnant; they are going to move around. Wisconsin has been good on defense since I can remember. They take a lot of pride in it, so it’s going to be a big challenge for us.”

“Both (Ohio State and Wisconsin) are really, really good football teams,” Chinander said. “Wisconsin is going to pack all 11 guys in the phone booth and try to make the fits really hard, especially on the second- and third-level players. I think it’s just a different style of football. Both really good football teams, just a different philosophy overall in how they are going to try and run the ball.”

Nebraska hosts the Badgers on Saturday at 2:30 p.m. (CT). Television coverage will be provided by FS1 and radio coverage by the Husker Sports Network.
