Huskers Increase NCAA D-I Best CoSIDA Academic All-America Total to 347



The Nebraska track and field program produced an impressive quartet of Academic All-Americans when the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) announced its final honor team of the 2020-21 season on Thursday, Aug. 12.

Men’s track and field student-athletes Kevin Cahoy and Luke Siedhoff headlined Nebraska’s list of CoSIDA Academic All-Americans for the 2020-21 campaign by collecting first-team awards. They were joined by second-team CoSIDA Academic All-American George Kusche, who was the 2020 Big Ten cross country individual champion, and third-team CoSIDA Academic All-American Andy Jacobs, who added an award for the Husker women’s track and field program.

Cahoy became a rare three-time CoSIDA Academic All-American after winning his second consecutive first-team Academic All-America award. He was also a third-team CoSIDA Academic All-American in 2019. The senior pole vaulter is a biological sciences major from Grand Island, Neb., and owns a 3.99 GPA. He was a four-time Academic All-Big Ten choice and a four-time USTFCCCA All-Academic honoree. He becomes the 15th three-time CoSIDA Academic All-American across all sports in Nebraska history, including men’s track and field honorees Bjorn Barrefors (2010, 2011, 2012, 2013) and Levi Gipson (2014, 2015, 2016).

Siedhoff, Nebraska’s 2020 Male Student-Athlete of the Year, added his second straight CoSIDA Academic All-America award. The hurdler from Crete, Neb., was a second-team Academic All-American in 2020. An NCAA qualifier in the 110-meter hurdles, Siedhoff was a five-time Big Ten Distinguished Scholar and three-time Academic All-Big Ten selection. He was also a four-time USTFCCCA All-Academic choice. A 2020 Nebraska graduate, Siedhoff posted a 4.0 graduate GPA as a biological sciences major. He also recently joined Cahoy as a 2021 NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship winner.

Kusche, a senior from Malelane, South Africa, captured second-team CoSIDA Academic All-America honors with a 3.77 GPA as an actuarial science major. A two-time Big Ten Distinguished Scholar, Kusche was also a two-time USTFCCCA All-Academic pick. He owns the Nebraska school records in both the mile and the 3,000 meters.

Jacobs claimed third-team CoSIDA Academic accolades as a broadcasting, journalism and psychology major. The senior from Rochester, Minn., was a four-time Big Ten Distinguished Scholar and a three-time Academic All-Big Ten selection. She was also a Nebraska Outstanding Scholar in 2021, along with being the Big Ten women’s pole vault runner-up both indoors and outdoors in 2017.

Overall, the Nebraska men’s and women’s track and field programs lead the nation with 53 combined CoSIDA Academic All-Americans since 2002. All-time the Husker men’s and women’s track and field programs have combined for 67 CoSIDA Academic All-America awards since 1985.

Nebraska continues to lead NCAA Division I across all sports and all teams with 347 all-time CoSIDA Academic All-Americans. Stanford ranks second nationally with 274. Nebraska is one of only five NCAA Division I schools with as many as 200 all-time CoSIDA Academic All-Americans, including Notre Dame (271), Penn State (213) and Alabama (210).
