Huskers Claim Third at RMO Season Opener



Colorado Springs, Colo.- At their season opener, the Huskers men’s gymnastics team claimed two event titles along with multiple career-high scores at the Rocky Mountain Open. Charlie Giles claimed the title on pommel horse. Sam Phillips claimed the floor title and placed fourth on all-around. Charlie Giles claimed second place overall on vault, while Cooper Giles scored third on floor, marking a career-high score.

Rotation One

Nebraska started off the night on parallel bars, posting an overall team score of 65.200. Senior Dylan LeClair led the Huskers with a career-high 13.70. Senior Evan Kriley followed closely behind notching a 13.60. Junior Sam Phillips finished with a career-high 13.50, while Junior Dylan Young notched a 13.25. Sophomore Yanni Chronopoulos and Senior Dillan King round out the event with a 12.80 and 11.85 respectively.

Rotation Two

NU moved on to high bar where Phillips and King led the Huskers with a 13.60. Following close behind, Junior Donte McKinney notched a 13.550. Chronopoulos added a 13.40, while LeClair finished with a 13.20. 

At the end of the rotation, the Huskers finished with a team score of 132.550, falling into third place behind Oklahoma with a score of 138.300, and Stanford leading with a score of 141.300

Rotation Three

Continuing to floor, the Huskers were led by Sam Phillips who notched an impressive 14.20. Senior Charlie Giles earned a 13.75, with Junior Cooper Giles followed with a career-high 13.55. LeClair notched a 13.45. Freshman Chris Hiser finished the rotation with a 13.20.

Stanford continued to hold first place after competing on high bar with a score of 206.500. Oklahoma competed on vault, following close behind with a score of 205.600. Nebraska scored a 202.500 holding third place.

Rotation Four

Charlie Giles led the way on pommel horse, scoring a career-high of 14.45, and taking first place in the fourth rotation. Not far behind, Cooper Giles also led the way for the Huskers notching a 14.30. Senior Khalil Jackson added a score of 13.75. Phillips scored a 11.75, while Chronopoulos and Kriley rounded out the score with a 11.70 and 11.65 respectively. 

At the end of rotation four, the Huskers maintained third place with a score 268.500. The Sooners competed on floor earning a score of 272.850, and Stanford maintained the lead with a 273.250.

Rotation Five

The Huskers went on to compete on rings where they notched a team score of 333.500. Dylan Young led the way for the Big Red, setting a career-high of 14.05. Chronopoulos added a score of 13.15, while Phillips followed with a career-high score of 12.90. At the end of rotation five, Senior Noah Urwiler and Freshman Chris Hiser both finished with a 12.45. The Huskers went into the final rotation with a score of 333.500 in third place.

Rotation Six

On their final rotation, NU finished on vault with a team score of 404.350. Senior Charlie Giles paved the way with a 14.55. Phillips followed closely behind with a 14.25. Freshman Joey Pepe and Senior Dylan LeClair notched a score of 14.05. McKinney finished with a 13.95 with Kriley rounding out the rotation with a 13.70.

All-Around

Sam Phillips competed in the all-around at the RMO, finishing with a score of 80.200, claiming fourth place overall.

Nebraska finished with a team score of 404.350

Stanford came in second with a team score of 407.500

Oklahoma took the meet title with a team score of 407.700.

Following behind, in order, was Arizona State, Arizona, Air Force, Rocky Mountain Pride, and Stanford Boys Gymnastics Club.
