Husker Trio Named Big Ten Players to Watch

Nebraska’s Grace Brown, Dakota Chan and Kenzie Coons each earned spots on the Big Ten Players to Watch list, the conference announced Wednesday.

Brown, a senior defender, has played in 50 games in her career at Nebraska, including 35 starts for the Huskers. In 2019, she recorded her first career assist to help NU to a 1-1 draw against Rutgers. The Iowa City, Iowa native helped the Nebraska defense produce six shutouts in 2018. As a freshman, Brown made 11 appearances and eight starts for the Huskers, taking eight shots in 486 minutes of action.

Chan, a junior from Richmond, B.C., returns this season after scoring two goals and dishing one assist in 10 games during the 2019 campaign before being sidelined by an injury for the remainder of the season. She recorded a three-point performance against Indiana, scoring the game winning goal and assisting another in NU’s triumph over the Hoosiers. Chan has played in 26 games for the Huskers in her career, starting 22 matches.

Coons, a junior from Omaha, Neb., started all 18 games of the 2019 campaign, amassing 1,484 minutes for the Huskers. She took 12 shots, including three on goal, and played for 90 minutes on six occasions. As a freshman, the midfielder earned Big Ten All-Freshman Team accolades after playing in every game for Nebraska and recording one goal and one assist on the season.

The Big Ten also released its preseason poll voted on by conference head coaches. Nebraska is picked to finish ninth in the conference.
