Giving credit where it is due, I was listening to The Recruiting Hour a couple days ago on 93.7 The Ticket with Mike Schaefer and Connor Happer. When I turned the radio on I first heard Mike Schaefer doing an advertisement for a Lincoln daycare.
I thought that was pretty hilarious. I assume he doesn’t have kids yet but maybe I’m wrong.
Regardless, they had a conversation about how you would rank Nebraska’s neighbors in regards to a power ranking.
The neighbors, obviously, are Colorado, Kansas, Iowa, South Dakota, Wyoming and Missouri. So here are my power rankings..
- Colorado
- South Dakota
- Missouri
- Wyoming
- Kansas
- Iowa
A few comments:
- Though it is probably not unanimous, we can probably agree that Colorado is numero uno right? It has professional sports teams, Denver, beautiful mountains and skiing/snowboarding among the numerous activities and if you like to partake in a substance that is illegal in the state of Nebraska then go ahead.
- South Dakota is probably higher on my list than it would be for most. I assume Missouri would normally be number two because of Kansas City, Lake of the Ozarks and Table Rock Lake among many of their other lakes. My family loves visiting Sioux Falls, SD. Falls Park and the downtown area is really cool for a family like mine. Plus, there is a hotel with a water park that my kids just love. Add that to South Dakota having the Badlands and the Black Hills I think it is pretty awesome.
- I am biased against Missouri for numerous reasons. Number one is because that’s where my wife is from and she still has family that lives there. Does that make sense? Not really but it’s how it goes. So whenever I have an opportunity to knock Missouri down a peg I do it.
- Wyoming has Yellowstone National Park which should probably bump it up, but I’ve never been there. Would like to go ASAP.
- Kansas isn’t Iowa so that’s why it gets the number five slot. It also has a Kansas City!
- Iowa is last because there is nothing redeemable about that state besides maybe Lake Okoboji. The best part about driving through Iowa is that it gets you to Chicago.
- If we were honest, Iowa would probably say the same about Nebraska. The best part about driving through Nebraska is that it gets you to Colorado.

Slower weekend on tap for Nebraska’s recruiting efforts
Comparatively speaking, Nebraska could have a quiet weekend as far as on-campus recruiting goes as the Huskers have just one visitor scheduled for Friday through Sunday.
Jaden Mangham, from Franklin, Mich., is getting the rare solo visit weekend, in which he’ll be able to spend plenty of time with Nebraska’s staff.
