Former Huskers Earn Top Two Seeds at USBC Queens Final

Reno – A pair of former Nebraska bowlers claimed the top two seeds for tonight’s stepladder finals of the United States Bowling Congress Queens.
The Queens, the first major of the Professional Women’s Bowling Association Tour season, will hold its stepladder finals beginning at 7 p.m. (central) at the National Bowling Center in Reno, Nev., and will be televised on BowlTV.com. The champion will take home the $20,000 first-place prize and tiara awarded to the winner.

Julia Bond, a three-time All-American during her Husker career from 2015 to 2018, is the top overall seed after defeating former Husker Liz Kuhlkin, 663-620, in the final match of the winner’s bracket on Monday.  Bond will have to be defeated twice in the true double-elimination format on Tuesday night.

Bond will look for her second career title after winning the 2021 PWBA Hall of Fame Classic and averaged more than 234 in her six wins on Sunday and Monday.

Kuhlkin, who was a three-time All-American and 2015 NTCA Bowler of the Year in 2015, is the No. 2 seed as she will be looking to win her second career major and third PWBA Tour title. She won the 2018 U.S. Women’s Open and is making her second stepladder appearance at the Queens after finishing fifth at the 2015 event.

Both Bond and Kuhlkin were members of the Huskers 2015 National Championship team and multi-year members of Team USA.
