Flakes: Parents Are Crazy and the U.S. Is Bad at Soccer Again

Jill is putting her absent-minded child in charge of the ranch for a day.

Happy Wednesday Corn Nation! Around 5 a.m. this morning I headed for Lincoln to take Son 1 on a college visit. With ranchdude also leaving for job-related travel in the wee hours, that leaves Son 2 (15 yrs) in charge of Son 3 (11 yrs). In most families, that would not be a big issue, but Son 2 is the one we affectionately refer to as our “absent minded professor”. I’m pretty sure he will remember to take Son 3 to school. He is good at remembering the first item on his “to-do” list. What I am worried about are items 2+ (chores, supper, fence voltage testing, homework instead of Xbox, etc.).

We are also celebrating our Tiger marching band placing second in their class (D) at the Harvest of Harmony parade in Grand Island last weekend. If you are unfamiliar with this event, it is basically the Nebraska state championship of marching bands. There are over 100 bands competing in five classes (AA, A, B, C, and D). This year, a class C band took overall honors as the ‘best of the best’.

Yay for small schools!
